Type Of Knurling

One of knurling type: "mountain" spire the knurling is composed of many middle have sharp bumps diamond, hence the name "spire mountain", according to the designer's idea.

These tiny, sharp bumps wedge into the skin of the trainer's hand as he or she grips the barbell, so that the barbell is an organic whole repeatedly with the palm of your hand, not easy to skid or slip out of the hand. But in the actual training, especially when the training weight is large, or the training movement requires a high grip strength (such as hard pull), these sharp bumps are easy to roll with the barbell bar and tear the skin of the trainer's hand, causing pain and even bleeding.Training of palm skin torn bleeding is a very annoying thing .

What's more, when doing hard pulls and high rolls that need to be attached to the body to lift the barbell, the "pointed hill" type of kroller often scratches the skin on the shins and shins of the trainer. It is not pleasant to scratch the shins and bleed. In order to avoid these unnecessary bleeding, a second kind knurling, the "hill"appeared.

By "hill," I mean the diamond-shaped flat tops that make up the knurls .While the flat top certainly avoids the inconvenience of tearing the palm and chipping the calf, it also reduces the effect of increasing friction and adds extra difficulty to the trainer (though in other words, this extra difficulty is an advantage when training grip strength).

How can you add friction without tearing and scraping the skin? The engineers soon came up with a third plan.Take a cue from the "peak mountain" pattern -- the sharp protrusion of a knurl wedges into the skin to increase friction, but also increases the chance of tearing. How about taking the opposite approach and "squeeze" the skin into the knurl pattern? Here is a rhomboid of rounded pits, rising upward like a "pinnacle mountain," at the top; and because these pits resemble the craters left behind by volcanic eruptions, people give them the figurative name of a volcano.
In contrast to the "hill," the skin on the palm of the hand squeezes into the pit at the top of the raised diamond under the force of the grip, which binds the skin more closely to the barbell bar and increases friction. At the same time, because the top is no longer a sharp bump, it becomes a circular pit, which distributes the stress on the skin, greatly reducing the chance of tearing the palm and the lower leg.

Therefore, the Volcano is considered to be the most ideal type of knurling in the current barbell manufacturing process. In short, the type of barbell bar and the type of knurling have nothing to do with each other. The former is designed for training purposes, while the latter is designed for easy grip. They are independent of each other.
